Geschichtstr\u00e4chtig und bunt ist die knapp 400000 Einwohner z\u00e4hlende K\u00fcstenstadt an der nach ihr benannten Stra\u00dfe von Malakka. Aufgrund der vielen historischen Geb\u00e4ude wurde sie zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe erhoben. Bis heute ist Malakka Stadt und Staat innerhalb Malaysias, einst war es ein eigenes Sultanat. Im Jahre 1402 rastete hier ein reisender Prinz unter einem Baum an der M\u00fcndung des Flusses. Als ein Reh einen seiner Jagdhunde mit einem Tritt der Hufe in den Fluss bef\u00f6rderte, deutete der Prinz dies als gutes Omen und gr\u00fcndete das Sultanat. Das niederl\u00e4ndische Stadthuijs, die Ruine der St. Paul\u2019s Kirche und die verwinkelte Altstadt zeugen ebenso wie die hervorragende indische, chinesische, malayische und internationale K\u00fcche von der bewegten Geschichte dieser Stadt, die fr\u00fcher so wichtig f\u00fcr den Handel gewesen ist. Wenn auf der Stra\u00dfe laute Musik wummert und rummst, handelt es sich keineswegs wie bei uns um junge M\u00e4nner in ihren zu mobilen Stereoanlagen umgebauten Angeberautos: Vielmehr wurde die Tradition der in S\u00fcdostasien allgegenw\u00e4rtigen Fahrradrikschas hier auf eine merkw\u00fcrdige Spitze getrieben. Vom Boot aus bestaunen wir die mit riesigen Kunstwerken bemalten H\u00e4user am Ufer, die ein wenig an Amsterdams Grachten erinnern. Wir brechen zeitig auf, fahren wieder mal per Grab-Taxi zum Zentralbusbahnhof Melakka. Dieser ist zwar fast so gro\u00df und kompliziert wie ein Flughafen, verf\u00fcgt aber weder \u00fcber ausreichend Toiletten noch \u00fcber Kaffee zur fr\u00fchen Morgenstunde um halb acht. Traurig. Auf der Fahrt im klimatisierten Luxusreisebus stellen wir wieder einmal fest, dass die malaysischen Autobahnen deutlich besser sind als deutsche. Diese Monokultur ist ein trostloser und trauriger Anblick, eine Biow\u00fcste, geschuldet und verursacht durch den Hunger von uns Konsumenten nach billigem Palm\u00f6l. Nur eins sieht noch trostloser aus: Wenn nach einigen Jahren der Ertrag der alten B\u00e4ume sinkt, werden sie gef\u00e4llt. Die St\u00e4mme werden abtransportiert, die abgehackten Bl\u00e4tter bleiben auf dem Boden liegen; h\u00e4ssliche Kahlschlagfl\u00e4chen, die bald mit frischen Palmsetzlingen neu aufgeforstet werden.
